The Professional Nikon D7000 Digital SLR
The Nikon D7000 is an outstanding professional quality DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera at a price that is accessible to most amateur photographers (a “prosumer” model). It is being viewed as a successor to Nikon’s highly successful and popular D90 DSLR and certainly surpasses it in features and performance. The D7000 is solid, small, light, faster and handles better than any other Nikon DSLR (and compares very favorably with competitors in the same market such as the Canon Eos 60D).The subtle, high quality images it produces do justice to it’s high resolution sensor.
Boasting Nikon’s latest AF (auto focus) array which works in collaboration with a new high-pixel RGB (red, green, blue) metering sensor the D7000 is able to track a subject by color (known as 3D AF tracking ).A full HD (high definition) video mode is accessed by a single camcorder-like button and offers 1920×1080 resolution at 24fps (frames per second), with the capability to maintain AF during live view and movie shooting thanks to its advanced AF-F or full timeAF mode.
Bundledwith Nikon’s creative and versatile ViewNX 2 photo software and compatible with a large number of different, high tech NIKKOR® lenses as well as those from other manufactures, this is a great camera either to upgrade to or as a first DSLR delivering a professional feel and performance.

High Performance
The D700 features Nikon’s latest 16.2 megapixel CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor ) chip which is capable of providing a Live View feed, recording Full HD video and capturing full-resolution stills at 6 frames per second; this sensor can even clean itself using high-frequency vibrations to dislodge any dust that may have settled on it following a lens change! The new image sensor is complemented by the more powerful EXPEED 2 processing engine and a larger buffer enabling the production of highly detailed images containing rich tonal gradations and accurately reproduced colors. It is this combination which assists in producing the beautifully defocused backgrounds which is the hallmark of a superb professional quality DSLR camera.
Two types of Auto White Balance enables indoor light to look natural or to leave tungsten light warm.
Camera–shake blur is non-existent under most conditions thanks to the fast shutter speeds resulting from the ISO sensitivity range of 100 to 6400 (which can be raised up to ISO 25600 equivalent using Nikon’s advanced Hi 2 setting). It therefore, delivers sharp images with minimized noise while maintaining resolution even at high ISO setting. The Nikon D7000 lets you select a faster shutter speed and expands creative possibilities in lowlight situations and sports scenes without worrying about image-degrading noise.
Twin SD (secure digital) memory card slots, compatible with the new generation SDXChigh capacity cards (up to 64GB each) provide the automatic back up that the professional requires as standard.
Full HD movies
The combination of a great quality professional DSLR and the HD video feature makes an enormous difference when shooting movies, offering so much more than a standard camcorder. By making use of Nikon’s wide selection of NIKKOR lenses you have the marvelous freedom to explore different angles and obtain fantastically defocused backgrounds (making the subject(s) stand out) while still benefiting from the Nikon 7000‘s advanced imaging and AF systems which deliver outstanding quality. If you are shooting action sequences, children performing, a dog playing, various sports for instance, then you will really appreciate the new subject-tracking AF (auto focus) which keeps subjects properly focused during the filming.
After the shoot, there is the facility to not only immediately review your movies on the large 7.5cm (3”) LCD (liquid crystal display) monitor but perform editing tasks such as trimming the beginning or ends of a film or utilizing the handy facility to extract still images. HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) compatibility (via HDMI mini-pin connector) allows you to connect the D3100 to an HDMI CEC (consumerelectronics control) compatible HDTV with playback managed by the TV’s remote control.
Lenses
To realise the exceptional quality results that can be achieved using the Nikon D7000 it is essential that you have an equivalent quality lens, preferably with vibration reduction (VR). Not only is there a focus motor in the D7000, so it works with every AF lens made since 1986, there’s also an aperture-ring feeler, so it meters with manual-focus lenses manufactured since 1977.Having said that, for the sake of a small extra cost, it is well worth having Nikkor lenses from the same manufacturer if you can afford them.
If you already have suitable lenses then you are probably thinking of buying the D7000 body only. If you do require lenses as well, then it is usually much cheaper to buy a bundle with a camera body and you will often get other extras such as a larger memory card, camera bag, ultraviolet light (UV) filter or camera care kit thrown in as well.
Because the D7000 will appeal to a photographers with a range of knowledge and experience, the following section on lenses will not be of interest to all readers. If that is the case you can purchase the outstanding now by clicking on the following link.

Twenty five years ago when I bought my first SLR camera, I have to admit that I was bewildered by the choice of lenses, the numbers on them and the features they offered. So here is a brief overview of which lenses you might wish to consider. Note that this explanation is simplified and is intended to help the reader understand the different lens options, other factors such as the size of the camera’s sensor also determine the lens a more advanced or professional photographer would select.
The key here is the focal length of the lens, which is what all those numbers that describe a lens indicate. Without being too technical, the focal length of a lens determines its angle of view, and how much the subject will be magnified when you hold the camera in a particular position. To photograph a building or a landscape you would use a wide angle lens with a focal length of say, 18mm. For general use a focal length of 35mm could be suitable whereas, for a portrait best results would be achieved with a medium telephoto lens with a focal length of at least 70mm. To get magnified images of birds and other wildlife or sporting events a telephoto lens with a focal length of 200 or 300mm is required.
So for different occasions or subjects you are going to need different focal length lenses. You could buy and carry round a selection of lenses and some people do that. But wouldn’t it be convenient if you could get just one or two lenses that could change their focal lengths to suit most of the situations you are going to encounter? A zoom lens does exactly that and the numbers that describe them tell you the shortest and longest focal lengths that they provide.
For instance, an 18-105mm zoom lens would be suitable for landscapes, general use and portraits. A 55-200mm or 55-300mm zoom lens would be used for portrait and telephoto photography, taking pictures of animals without getting close and disturbing them for example. By buying two different zoom lenses with your camera you can have a focal length available for most photographs you will want to take.
